The Chest is BadWolfMC’s long-running mystery auction event, inspired by Storage Wars and fueled by curiosity, chance, and a love of hidden treasure.

Origins

The Chest first opened for bids on July 20, 2023, deep in the Pirate Isles, where it was built, plundered, and hosted by Cap’n Jennyblaze. The original units were stocked with reclaimed goods from abandoned mall shops and the belongings of banned players—some of whose heads now permanently adorn the Wall of Shame.

What began as a simple hallway of sealed units quickly proved wildly popular. Over time, The Chest expanded into a winding maze of rooms and corridors, housing storage units of varying sizes and layouts—each one a sealed mystery until the winning bidder claims it.

The Auction Experience

Ahoy, adventurers and treasure seekers! The Chest offers a silent auction where the thrill of discovery and the rush of competition collide.

What to Expect

Rumors swirl of abandoned storage units overflowing with forgotten goods, sourced from long-lost shops and the stashes of banned scallywags. Each unit is sold sight unseen, turning every bid into a gamble. Will you uncover sparkling riches, curious trinkets, or something truly unexpected?

Units may be loosely themed—or complete chaos. Some are packed with valuable loot, others with curiosities of questionable worth, and occasionally a unit turns out to be a complete dud. That uncertainty is part of the fun.

How to Participate

  • Travel to The Chest using /res tp PirateIsles.
  • All units have a minimum bid of $1000.
  • Bidding is conducted via silent auction:
    • Rename a piece of paper with your bid amount.
    • Place it into the jar near the entrance labeled with the unit letter you wish to bid on.
  • The highest bidder wins the contents of the unit.

To keep the playing field fair and the mystery intact, bids are never made public, even after the auction concludes.

Player-Built Units

Due to the continued popularity of The Chest, players may now apply to build their own auction units. These player-built units must follow specific rules to preserve fairness, mystery, and the spirit of the event.

Unit Builder Rules

  • Selection & Units: If selected as a Unit Builder, you may choose from a staff-approved list of unit sizes. Not all units will be available.
  • Materials: Unit Builders must supply all materials and loot containers themselves.
  • Allowed Items: Most items are permitted. Vault items are prohibited, and no more than 3 Fate Coins may be included.
  • Access Limits: Builders will not have access to back rooms and may only teleport directly into their assigned unit via /res tp.
  • Staff Assistance: Staff may not assist with building, except for general guidance about Chest Auction unit standards.
  • Inspection: Units must be inspected and approved by an Admin at least 3 days before the auction start. Submit a /ticket to request inspection.
  • Lock-In: Once approved, builder permissions will be removed and no further edits may be made.
  • Bidding Restrictions: Unit Builders may not bid on their own units or view bids in progress.
  • Proceeds: If the unit sells, the builder receives 100% of the sale proceeds.
  • Unsold Units:
    • If a unit does not sell, the builder may either reclaim its contents or preserve the unit for a future auction.
    • Preserved units may be reclaimed at any time within 3 Unit Builder Lottery cycles of the original selection.
    • If reclaimed, the builder will have 1 week to clear the unit.
  • Forfeiture: Management reserves the right to reclaim, re-sell, or delete any unsold and unclaimed unit after 3 auction cycles. In such cases, no items, blocks, or proceeds will be returned.

Unit Builder Lottery Rules

  • How to Apply: Players may submit one application per lottery cycle via the Cason NPC at /warp TheChest.
  • Application Validity: Applications apply only to the current lottery and are discarded once selections are complete. Players must re-apply for future lotteries.
  • Multiple Submissions: If multiple applications are submitted in a single cycle, only the most recent will be considered valid.
  • Timing: Lotteries are held approximately 1 month before each Chest Auction.
  • Selection Process:
    • Valid applications are entered into a random draw using a dropper.
    • If applications exceed the dropper capacity (9), selection becomes first come, first served, and later submissions are discarded.
  • Slots: The number of Unit Builders selected may vary by auction; initial runs are expected to select 2 builders.
  • Cooldowns:
    • Selected Unit Builders may not enter the lottery for one full auction cycle.
    • Builders who fail to complete an approved unit will be barred from the lottery for one year.
