Quick Start Guide

From BadWolfMC Wiki

Welcome to the BadWolfMC Quick Start Guide! Your source of everything you need to know to get started on our network. This guide assumes you are already a member and have joined our /discord. And now that you've agreed to them you might as well actually read the rules. They cover about 85% of the questions we get from new members. This page covers most of the rest.

Where can I build?

BadWolfMC’s spawn is protected in a ~300 block radius and there are a few other protected zones scattered around the server. Outside that, you are free to build as you please within the guidelines and as long as it isn't within 250 blocks of another player's clearly marked territory. It is common courtesy to ask before building near another player's structures - consult our live map to find the perfect place then use the teleport pads on the spawn compass to get closest to it. To get back to spawn from anywhere on the server, type /spawn.

Be careful not to build in the resource worlds! Or if you do, don't make it anything you'll miss. These worlds are reset regularly and exist to prevent our main worlds from getting too torn up. You can get to these from the worlds hub at spawn (use /worlds).

If you like a challenge or you just want to do some creative building, we have SkyBlock Worlds and a creative PlotWorld on the BadWolfMC Beta Server. To get to Beta you can click on the sword in the /menu or use the portals at /worlds or /games. The Beta server also houses several of our games including the Elytra Challenges, Parkour Maps, and Paintball Arenas!

Or if you like a real challenge along with skill-progression-based gameplay, you might enjoy our magical worlds on BadWolfMC Gamma. Full of truly difficult magical foes, it will be a very long time before you run out of things to do here!

Where can I mine?

Mining and pillaging (including sea temples, sunken ships, treasure chests, etc.) should be limited to the resource worlds only, and please assist us in reminding all members to do the same. This will help us avoid resetting the main world for as long as possible. Use /worlds for the hub or use one of the /warps. It’s cool if you mine and pillage within your area, but even accidental mining outside of your claim could be considered griefing!

Once in the resource worlds (and on many of our worlds) you can use the /random command to teleport yourself to a random location on the map away from the more mined-out areas close to spawn. This command has a 60-second cooldown per user regardless of rank to avoid loading too many chunks too quickly.

Gamma mining rules are slightly more strict: while mining is limited to the resource worlds of uolɐʌ∀ (a merged version of the overworld and nether) and Camlann (the end); even mining around your claim is forbidden except where necessary for your builds.

How do I make money?

New members start out with $200 in their account, which you can view by typing /balance or /bal. To make money, you can sell certain items at the bank (/menu or /bank) or shops in the mall at spawn. You can teleport to the mall by typing /mall.

The bank has set values for buying and selling certain gems and metals, such as $50 per diamond, $9 per gold ingot ($9 to purchase, $1 to deposit to avoid abuse with gold farms), and $1 per iron ingot.

BadWolfMC also has a Jobs plugin that allows you to be paid for things like mining, fishing, hunting mobs, etc. Every member is allowed to have two jobs at a time, and these jobs can be switched at will without losing your last job level. The Builder and Miner jobs are the most popular, but we're not here to tell you what to do with your life.

How do I protect myself?

BadWolfMC has two plugins that will help protect your things:

  • We have a chest-locking plugin that uses signs to protect any Minecraft containers (chests, furnaces, etc.) and entrances such as doors and gates. To lock any of these, place a sign either directly on the container or on the block it’s sitting on and type [Private] on the first line (if you don’t crouch when you place the sign it will fill this in automatically). Your name will show up on the second line, indicating that you have successfully locked your chest. See the tutorial for more information on allowing others to access your chests.
  • The Residence plugin allows you to make residences which will automatically secure all blocks and chests inside the residence area. We highly recommend checking out the tutorial since this plugin is fairly expansive.

How do I set a home?

Homes act as "save points" to which you can teleport. Members get two homes, which can be set by entering /sethome [name], and accessed by either using the /homes command and clicking on the desired location (preferred), or by entering /home [name] (the name is required otherwise it could put you in a command cooldown loop). To delete a home, use the command /delhome [name].

Don't forget that Residences can also act as extra homes and do not have a cooldown associated with the /res tp [name] command.

Any useful plugins I should know about?

Several, really. Take a look at our About Us page and the BadWolfMC Wiki main page for all of our tutorials, but perhaps the most immediately useful are:

Enchanted Furnaces

Probably the least vanilla thing about our servers, Enchanted Furnaces allow you to enchant your furnaces on a regular enchanting table for efficiency (smelting speed), fortune (bonus output), silk touch (saves fuel burn time), and unbreaking (makes fuel last longer).

VeinMiner

Shift+right-click to mine the entire ore vein, chop the entire tree, or shear all the leaves! Just be careful not to chop your entire house! VeinMiner use can be toggled with /veinminer toggle.

How do I join Discord?

Once your membership has been approved you’ll be able to use /discord in game (from any server), which will give you a link to a members-only page on the forum, with the link to our Discord server and instructions on how to link your Discord account (also required so permissions and ranks carry over). Yes, we know it’s a little complicated, but these extra steps go a long way to keeping (most of) the trolls out.

If you already have a Discord account, for example on your mobile device, be sure to use the same login information - creating a duplicate account will only complicate things when you try to switch between mobile and PC.

The most common mistake people make when linking their Discord account is messaging the wrong server's bot. Hit tab to see which server you're on, then when you run the link command, be sure to message the Discord bot corresponding to the same server (e.g. if you're on Alpha, make sure you message the Alpha bot, if you're on Beta make sure you message the Beta bot, etc.). It does not matter which server you link from, just that the combination of server/bot is correct.
