BadWolfMC Alpha is the default server of the BadWolfMC Network which houses our survival worlds including the main overworld, Gallifrey, and eco-friendly resource worlds for renewable materials! Our seasonal events are also hosted here. Access the Alpha server through the /menu or by using the /alpha command.

Game Play

Game play on Alpha is the semi-vanilla Minecraft experience you'd expect, with carefully curated plugins to add some fun without taking too much away from the vanilla feel. Players will find the majority of our Whovian fandom references on Alpha in cities like The Citadel and Atlantis or in our Tardis.

Resources

Unlike many servers, the BadWolfMC admins thought it would be wise to introduce three parallel resource worlds, each corresponding to the three vanilla world types. Mining and raiding is prohibited in the main worlds and limited only to the resource worlds in hopes of preserving the main worlds for as long as possible. These resource worlds are reset on a rough 3-month cycle.

History

The Alpha server was willed into being at 11:00pm on Saturday August 20, 2016. The initial construction took roughly one month and included the spawn compass and associated teleport pads, the mall, the worlds hub, the games hub, the balloon, the Tardis, the EndGrinder, the tree farm, the fairgrounds, and spawns for the nether and the resource worlds. These were all original works built by hand and WorldEdit by Cesar, merc, and Mommy_D, and released when the server opened to the public on October 1, 2016 under Minecraft version 1.10.

The original world on Alpha possessed only the default world name and had a world border of 40,000 blocks. Given the season, work was almost immediately started on the Haunted House, which opened mid-October, followed in quick succession by the Mall's Head Market and a significant expansion of the Tardis, which was originally just the central console room in the style of the 10th Doctor's Tardis. The server grew, slowly but steadily, and was self-sufficient (for the hardware at the time) after approximately three months.

The first year saw additions such as Rewards and the opening of the Citadel with the update to Minecraft 1.12. Satellite 5 was released as part of the one-year anniversary along with the fighting of our original Ender Dragon. Stormcage, the first addition to the Alpha spawn since the server opened, followed a few months later. It was around this time that the server traffic started to slow significantly after news broke of the Minecraft 1.13 update and the decision to reset the main world. BadWolfMC very nearly didn't survive, but the build team was at least able to keep busy with the construction of Atlantis. During this time, BadWolfMC members also built The Oasis in the original nether to act as a temporary base while the main world awaited its doom.

Finally, in September 2018, the network successfully updated to Minecraft 1.13 with a new world: Gallifrey. All of the server builds from the original world were copied over, players were allowed to migrate belongings, and the original world was removed. Our two-year anniversary was bittersweet with the release of the Old Village, which featured a collection of player builds from the original world. An event was held in which a copy of the village had to be defended from hostile alien invaders including Cybermen, Daleks, Silurians, Zygons, and withers of course. Atlantis was released soon after in November 2018.

The release cadence on Alpha slowed at this point since the server gods were away building BadWolfMC Gamma and distracted by no less than two server migrations, but we continued to expand our seasonal events and returned our attentions to Alpha in 2020 to release its first dungeon, Krop Tor: The Impossible Planet in time for our fourth anniversary.
